Set up is a breeze. This system is amazing. Price is fair. The receiver processes just as it's supposed to and supports all the HD audio and video settings. Sound is excellent. Looks good overall with my black plasma screen. What more do you want.
Pairing with Mitsubishi HC1600 projector, I now really enjoy the real HD cinema environment. For under $1500 ($675 projector & $693 HT-S6100), I could not find better deal for price vs quality. The installation was simple (took me about 2 hours because I am not really technie), the calibration was quick & precise. I would recommend it 100%
There is one thing i totally loved about it is the center speaker comes with a stand of its own. You definitely need to buy wires if you have a big living room like i do. Turns out, this is the closest you can get to pro systems with this money though a little pricier than Sony. However the setup process was not all that smooth sailing.
But, hey, you have to do it only once. Its just plain huge. Big deal if it takes a little extra time. The other problem while setting up was the wire connectors behind the reciever is a major design flaw as per me. The wires are long, but not long enough to properly conceal it. Anyways, going past the packaging, the moment i connected all my speakers, set it up and gave it a shot with a Max Payne BD, it just blew me away.
About 4 and half feet tall, 90lbs. Options were Sony and Onkyo. That should save you about a hundred bucks or so. I did a lot of research before buying this. half the time the hole where the wire should go in is on the blind spot or obsturcted by other connectors.
If set up properly it really feels like sitting in a theater. As I mentioned with proper setup it feels like sitting in a theater. The wires are color coded. I had a miniscule HT system before this one, well thats what it feels like now. Trust me its totally worth it.About the hardware. I absolutely love the fact that it comes with a setup speaker and a iPod dock. However it should have come with speaker stands like 7100.
The speakers are big but thats because Onkyo doesnt want to let you down with substandard sound quality. All the speakers are 8 ohm speaks and the subwoofer output can resonate through you house. 1st of all, the packaging is "HUGE"(i wished to make it in bold letters). Turn up the bass and you may hear a few glasswares resonating in the kitchen. If you ask me if it is a wise buy, yes it is, totally. There is plus point here though. So its fairly simple to understand which one goes where. Nice touch there.About the sound, the depth, clarity and the punch is really mind blowing.
You wont repent a penny spent.
I conected my PS3 to it and it sounds great. The system works great. You get crystal clear sound. It gives you a great gaming experience. I don`t think it`s possible to get something better for this kind of money.Blu-ray movies sound awesome.
Xbox 360 & PS3 work perfectly with the receiver. It is fine for non-HDMI connected sources though more button pushes are required. There appears to be no loss in video quality through the receiver, except with the cable company's HD cable box.
I doubt there are many better HTiB and none better at this price range. I found the HT-S6100 to work well with crisp sound and ample bass.
The auto set up needs tweaking to get it to sound right, though it provided a good starting point. The universal remote works best when it is all HDMI in (HDMI out to TV is assumed). If you are comparing this to the S7100, know you only get Onkyo branded speaker stands and added i-pod functionality.
If these extra features are important to you than get the S7100, otherwise stick with the S6100.I connected the speakers with 16 gauge the wires right out of the box per the suggestion of many HT forums , so I don't know how well the system will sound with factory wire. The cable picture was slightly darker and slightly blurred in movement.
